New Ways for Forestry - Stopping the sale of logs from Papua

Lucas Mill machines received an excellent response as a sustainable method for harvesting timber into the future. In particularl the response from the Governor and the Head to the Forestry department in Papua was very positive. The sustainable selective harvesting methods that portable sawmills can support ensure that local timber can be used by local people, rather than being removed by large logging companies.

The capacity for the Lucas Mill to be used as a selective harvesting tool not only reduces the impact on the environment, but it also makes the process of utilising local resources very efficient and cost effective for the local people. By taking the equipment into the forests and then setting up around selected fallen trees, the Lucas Mill represents a positive solution for meeting a communities timber needs, without compromising the forests future.
