On Tuesday this week, the Australian Forest Growers conference participants were welcomed at the Lucas Mill factory for an afternoon which included a factory tour, live demonstrations and the opportunity to opperate the range of portable sawmilling equipment available from Lucas Mill.

Conference participants came from a broad range of backgrounds including private farming, forest management, harvesting, research and government departments. Many memebers of the group had travelled from all over the country, South Australia, Queensland, and some from as far as New Zealand.

At the beginning of their visit, the group was shown through the Lucas Mill factory by General Manager, Warren Lucas. Over the past ten years this manufacturing environment has grown significantly, and many of the visitors were impressed by the growing capacity of the rural based business.

Following this the crowd was given the opportunity to see a range of models being opperated by Lucas Mill staff, before being given the opportunity to have a go themselves to reaaly see just how simple the machines are to opperate.

Whilst relaxing over refreshments in the shade, a number of participants commented on the uniqueneess of the portable sawmill and it's increasing relevance in this time of growing environmental caution. Providing a means for selective and highly efficient timber recovery is a very strong selling point for this equipment, and will become increasingly important in the future.

Lucas Mill welcomes groups and individuals to come along and see how the portable sawmills are manufactured, and participate in a live demonstration.
